Dominique Petitgand

Born in 1965

Since 1992, Dominique Petitgand has been composing and producing sound pieces, where voices, noises, musical atmospheres and silences construct, through montage, micro-universes where ambiguity permanently remains between a reality principle ( the recording of people’s words to each other) and a projection into a dreamlike fiction. He defines his works as "narratives and mental landscapes" He inventes in an almost obsessive way, and always borrows musicality, voices, gestures, moods to take note of a word, an act or a lack. Thus, the exclusive use of sound places him in a singular and moving territory that concerns different artistic disciplines: he broadcasts his works during listening sessions that are similar to concerts in the dark, on records but also during exhibitions, in the form of a sound installation in which the sound diffusion device, adapted both to the particularity of the space invested and to the story itself, offers each listener a plural and open experience.
