Living the place: ANNE LAURE SACRISTE

LIVING THE PLACE,
ANNE LAURE SACRISTE, INTERSTICE(S), CASTLE OF AZAY LE RIDEAU
Withe the support of Conseil départemental d’Indre-et-Loire

Gathered together by Anne-Laure Chamboissier, artistic curator, about ten artists were invited to live in places* in Touraine from spring to autumn 2021 following a creative residency. The theme "Living in the place" takes on its full meaning at a time when everyone is reviewing their lifestyles and the spaces that surround them. The artists renterrogate what constitutes these places, whether through the prism of their history, their architecture or their function. These works draw a new and sensitive cartography of the territory through their singular view of these places.

"Nourished by my various stays in Japan (Kyoto), my eye as a painter has become sharper and more demanding when it comes to a certain idea of beauty". Anne Laure Sacriste . The artist intervenes in two distinct areas of the castle. In the chapel, outside and in the park, a copper plate, placed a few centimetres from the ground, provides lighting on all the walls by reflecting the sunlight, and also makes the flying buttresses of the ceiling appear on the copper, which has become a mirror. In the Garde Robe space inside the castle, a tapestry with a William Morris motif is displayed on a bearing structure, like the one used in Japan to highlight a Kimono. Anne Laure Sacriste’s proposal as a whole, with its tenuous gestures, contrary to the idea of a show, or the spectacular, leads the spectator to a more intimate reflection on our relationship with the world.
