JEAN-FRANÇOIS GUILLON ET DIDIER GALAS, RIEN NE VA PLUS, LA DEVINIÈRE - MUSEUM OF RABELAIS

Gathered together by Anne-Laure Chamboissier, artistic curator, about ten artists were invited to live in places* in Touraine from spring to autumn 2021 following a creative residency. The theme "Living in the place" takes on its full meaning at a time when everyone is reviewing their lifestyles and the spaces that surround them. The artists renterrogate what constitutes these places, whether through the prism of their history, their architecture or their function. These works draw a new and sensitive cartography of the territory through their singular view of these places.
Rien ne va plus is an hybrid project. It consists of the installation of a series of works on the site of the Museum Rabelais and a performance journey that links them together. The whole concept reveals, the interweaving of reality, language and fiction found throughout Rabelais’ work. The pieces installed on the estate consist of a series of formal proposals experimenting with the drawing of the letter and the writing of the word, to offer an open re-reading of the Rabelaisian lexicon. This work mixes plant, animal and writing forms, insects and typographic signs and proposes a contemporary approach to the notions of illumination and typography. The performance presented in François Rabelais’ real childhood home allows us to apprehend La Devinière as a space where reality, fiction, language and literature intermingle. Rabelais’ surpri-sing answers to the questions linked to the uncertain future of our globalised planet (Rien ne va plus) will be confronted with the surprising answers of Rabelais.
